            Our history

The Santa Rosa Academy began as an elementary Catholic school in the year 1959-1960. It was founded by the Dominican Fathers in response to the population growth needs of the town of Bayamón. It began with an enrollment of 737 Kindergarten through Eighth grade students. Its first Director was Father Dalmacio and then Father Ángel Eikenboon, who was there from 1962 to 1976.

 

In 1977, it became the property of the Catholic Church, Archdiocese of San Juan. From 1977 to 1991 the Parish Priest and Director of our Academy was Monsignor Rafael Matienzo. From September 1991 to January 2004, Father Pedro Campaña directed the Academy and the Parish.

 

In March 2004, after the death of Father Pedro, Father Virgilio Martínez assumed the Directorate. The Dominican Sisters of Amityville have been dedicated, from the beginning, to organizing schools and giving our children the opportunity to practice our Catholic faith.  His first principal was Sister Clarita Bleif, OP (rpd). From 1973 to 2003 he was Principal of the Sister Doris M. López Academy. From 2003 to 2005 he held the position of Principal Sister Selenia Quiñones.

 

From 2005 to 2007 Mr. Feliciano Quintero Martínez served as Principal of the Academy. From 2007 to 2008, Ms. Carmen N. Cardec Rivera held the post of Principal. Currently, Mrs. Lorrie M. Cuevas Torres assumes the position of Principal. He received accreditation from the Department of Public Instruction on February 8, 1965. He received accreditation from the Middle States Association on December 1, 1990 and certification from the General Council of Education since February 18, 2008. Accreditation licenses are current nowadays.
